The practice of medicine should be viewed as a vocation rather than simply another career in which to earn a salary. This thesis explores the distinction between vocation and career, and how we as individuals discover what our vocation, or calling, is. It explores the influence of the Christian virtues of charity and justice, and the Jesuit values of cura personalis and men and women in service of others in the discernment process of vocation. The thesis also examines how these qualities play out in an example medical case. In conclusion, the thesis outlines how medicine can become a more meaningful practice if we begin to recognize the importance of the physician as a healer and an example of the great physician who is Christ
