She also has that delightful charm of manner and personality which is so essential for a concert artist , and which gains for her the confidence of her audience from start to fi nish. Miss Wells was in fine voice and showed gre~t ability and thorough training in her many difficult selections and won all hearts with her exquisite rendering of the old favorite, "Comin' Thru the Rye."-Lancaster Times. Miss !\laud Wells sang in her usual captivating man-ner and was warmly encored.-lthaca Daily Journal. fllllr. il;rury 1Klriukauf Mr. Henry Kleinkauf is a pianist of no ordi-nary rapacity, and has been remarkably suc-cessful in concert perform'ances during the last two years. He possesses a robust and virile technique and unusually brilliant tone, combined with considerable temperament. Speaking of a re-cent performance, the Ithaca Daily News spoke in part as follows of Mr. Kleinkauf: "His rendering of Liszt's Rhapsodie No. VI was brilliant and exciting. We have not often heard the splendid bravura of the finale more effectively handled." .tlr. Jnnu:er Mr. Posner, although a young violinist, is the possessor of a marvelous technique which enables him to perform the works of that wizard of violin playing Paganini, with sur-prising ease and confidence. Mr. Posner is also the happy possessor of a sparkling yet sweet tone which together with his exceptional technical acquirements make him a violinist sure to please his audience. Mr. Posner played the D Major "Polonaise" by Wieniawski in a most interesting manner. He is a violinist of re-markable technique and has givei1 several very success-ful recitals.-Rochester Democrat and Chronicle . .tlrn. .tlnry 1irnnk:er Miss Mary Brooker is a read~r of unusual ability and her interpretation of the best litera-ture is of a high order. Miss Brooker is a young lady of charming presence and rare emotional force, possessing that magnetism and grace which come only with long study and experience. Although her repertoire is extensive and broad of range, she excels in her dramatic intrpretations. She is sure to enter-tain, instruct and uplift all who are privileged to hear her. The· monologue "Madame Butterfly," given at Music Hall last night by Miss Mary Brooker, was rendered. with great dramatic power and worthy of all the ap-plause she received. Her personality adjusted itself admirably to the situations.-! thaca Daily Journal. Miss Mary Brooker, who took the part of "Sylvia," David's ward, is a natural actress. The assemblage of music lovers which filled Conservatory Hall last night to hear the opening of the Special Grand Concert Company of the I thaca Conser-vatory of Music, testified its apprecia-tion by encoring every member of the company. Encores were demanded after each number on the program by spontaneous, prolonged and insistent applause. 1. Piano-Ca) Sonata, F Major (One Movement) .... ............................. The audience was most cosmopolitan. It included singers and instrumentalists who have a reputation outside of Ithaca, finished musicians. Cornell students and business men and their families were there. T hey all applauded-the musicians because they admired the technical, artistic finish, the students and the folks because they liked it. 3. Violin-Concerto, E Minor ................ The effectiveness of the reader, the perfe"ction and power of the violinist, the warmth and ceilor of the singing and the i.kill of the pianist need no descrip-tion to Ithacans. Shakespeare A Rare Treat Miss Brooker. Lovers of music had a rich treat last night in the concert given by the Spe-cial Grand Concert Company of the 10. The Loreley .... . . · ............ .. ................. . Liszt Ithaca Conservatory of Music, and those persons who were unable to attend missed much pleasure. Rarely has a concert of such excellence been given here, or artists whose art is "true art," been heard. From the first number the entire program, which was of a high order; was rendered in a most finished man-ner. The senior class of Swanton (Vt.) High School, under whose auspices the concert was given, deserves th~nks for an evening of great pleasure. A Delightful Conceet The concert given by the Ithaca Conservatory of Music Concert Company last evening in Y. M. C. A. Hall, was a delightful event in every respect. This Conservatory for a number of years has been sending out its · graduate students, and judging from the enter-tainment provided whenever the students appear in Reading, the institution has a high place in the regard of many of the people of this city. Excellent Conce rt Four young people, known as the Special Grand Concert Company and traveling under the auspices of the Ithaca Conservatory of Music, gave a concert of unusual merit on Wednesday evening in the auditorium of the High School. The audience was. small, but the vigor and sincerity of the applause, which was out of all proportion to the numbers, must have been some recompense to the performers. The work of each reflected great credit upon the Conservatory which they represent and its inst;uctors. Not the least noticeable feature of each was his bear-ing and presence. This program is subject to change. maneuvering and posing but rather a naturalness and grace which indicated a development of the individ-uality.-Amsterdam Evening Recorder. Excellent Entertainment On Thursday evening the Special Grand Concert Company gave an excellent entertainment in St. Paul's M. E. Church. Delightful Entertainment A representative audience gathered last evening at the High School Auditorium to hear the excellent numbers presented by the Special Grand Concert Com-pany, under the direction of the Ithaca Conservatory of Music Entertainment Bureau.
