Mishoe, DeanAugust 24, 2012New Faculty IntroductionsOld Dominion UniversityCollege of Health SciencesSchool of Community and Environmental Health Dr. Steven Becker, Professor Joins us from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, School of Public Health as Professor and Director of Disaster & Emergency Communication Research Unit, Department of Environmental Health Sciences as professor and associate director for the MPH Program. Dr. Maureen Boshier, Visiting Associate Professor Joins us from EVMS, School of Public Health as an Assistant Professor and  additionally serves as a Consultant to Excelsior College, technical consultant to WENY documentary “Inside the Nursing Crisis” produced for public television; consultant to TCS Education System.School of Dental Hygiene Ms. Denise Claiborne, Lecturer Received her Bachelor and Master of Science in Dental Hygiene and Bachelor in Psychology degrees from Old Dominion University. Has taught pharmacology and clinical dental hygiene at Thomas Nelson Community College as an adjunct Assistant Professor. Currently working on several publications on the effects of low temperature atmospheric pressure plasma on tooth whitening, common medications that cause xerostomia, and a book chapter on the dental practice environment.School of Physical Therapy Dr. Lisa Koperna, Clinic Director/Lecturer of Physical Therapy Owner and Physical Therapist of Accelerated Physical Therapy in Virginia Beach, adjunct assistant professor for the School of Physical Therapy, and in addition received a Bachelor and Masters from Old Dominion University Athletic Training: Dr. Bonnie Van Lunen, Associate Professor and Dr. Matthew Hoch (HOKE), Assistant Professor both join us from Human Movement Sciences in the College of Education. Dr. Van Lunen has been with ODU since 1999. She is Graduate Program Director for Athletic Training and has extensive research in mechanisms and rehabilitation of lower extremity injuries.  Dr. Hoch is beginning his second year of teaching at ODU. His research focus is chronic ankle instability.School of Nursing Dr. Deborah Gray, Lecturer Received her Doctor of Nursing Practice in May 2012 from Old Dominion University and has served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in both the Doctorate and Masters Programs, Old Dominion UniversitySchool of Medical Laboratory and Radiation Sciences Dr. Roy Ogle, Professor and Chair Received his PhD from UVa and held numerous academic appointments there and at MUSC.  Since 2009, he has been an Adjunct Professor in the College of Health Sciences, Old Dominion University and Adjunct Professor at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He is the recipient of over 42 research grants, holds several patents (2 issued, 7 pending), and has authored 129 peer-reviewed publications and the textbook, Craniofacial Surgery: Science and Surgical Technique. He has served on many federal and state advisory committees and review panels and testified at the US Senate Hearings on the NIH budget and embryonic stem cell research. Dr. Ogle joins us from LifeNet Health, Virginia Beach serving as their Director of Cell Therapy and  Chief Scientific Officer.Grant Writer Dr. Coryce Haavik Recently has served as a grant consultant for several health sciences groups as well as spent six years at the University of Botswana in the roles of Dean, School of Graduate Studies and Deputy Director for Institutional Research. Mission• Improve individual and community health by advanced professional education, influential research, and responsive service.
