The oldest archaeological site dates back to more than 13,000 years ago, when people moved into the region as the glaciers melted at the end of the last Ice Age.Passamaquoddy means “pollock fishing place,” and these fish contin-ue to be an important resource to the Passa-maquoddy Tribe of Na-tive Americans, along with porpoise, lobsters, scallops, clams, eels, and alewives.Today’s Passamaquoddy are part of the Wabana-ki Confederacy of tribes and First Nations, whose traditional homeland extends across the northeastern United States and Canada. Il en va de même du marsouin, du homard, des pétoncles, des moules, de l’anguille et du gaspareau.
