The object of the league was to a) bring about cooperation between producer and consumer in the marketing of farm products and encourage and assist in the advancement and development of agriculture and rural life, b) create, through publicity, a wider knowledge of the natural resources of the state of Maine and aid in their development, c) aid in the development of hotel interests and tourist traffic, and d) aid in securing the economical production and distribution of foods and other farm products, providing Maine grown food for the people of the state

M errill , OronoPortland Gardiner South ChinaOronoPortlandPortlandCONSTITUTION.ARTICLE 1.NAME.The name of this League shall be State of M aine Agricultural and Industrial League.ARTICLE 2.OBJECTS.The objects of this League shall be:(a) . To bring about cooperation between producer and consumer in the marketing of farm products and in the buying of supplies, farm machinery and equipment; to aid farmers to secure necessary credit for conducting their business; to arouse public sentiment for highway improvement and especially the systematic improvement and maintenance of the market roads of the State, and to encourage and assist all organizations, institutions and interests, having for their purpose the advancement and development of agriculture and rural life within the State.(b)  . To create by proper publicity, a wider knowledge of the natural resources of the State of Maine, and to aid in their development.(c) . To aid in the development of the hotel interests and tourist traffic.(d)  . To aid in securing the economical production and distribution of foods and other farm products, in recogni­tion of the mutuality of interests of the agricultural and industrial elements of the State, and the necessity of provid­ing Maine grown food for the people of the State.ARTICLE 3.OFFICERS.Section 1. The officers of the League shall be a Presi­dent, live (5) Vice Presidents, a Treasurer, a Secretary, and a Board of Directors of not less than thirty-six (36). Two4Directors to be chosen from each County in the State, and nine to be chosen at large.Sec. 2. The officers of the League and the members of the Board of Directors shall be members of the Teague and shall be elected by ballot at the regular annual meeting of the Teague. They shall serve until the next annual meeting, or until their successors are elected and qualified.ARTICLE 4.DUTY OF OFFICERS.PRESIDENT.Section 1. The President shall if present preside at all meetings of the Teague and of the Directors. In his absence one of the Vice Presidents shall preside.Sec. 2. The President shall perform all other duties incident to his office, or as prescribed by a vote of the members of the Teague or of the Directors. In the absence or dis­ability of the President, one the Vice Presidents shall perform the duties of President.ARTICLE 5. secretary.Section 1. The Secretary shall give notice of the annual meetings and of all special meetings of the Teague and of all meetings of the Directors. He shall keep a true record of all meetings of the Teague, of the Board of Directors and of the Executive Committee, and shall perform such other duties as are incident to his office, or shall be prescribed by the Board of Directors or the Executive Committee.Sec. 2. The Secretary, at the expiration of his term of office, shall turn over to his successors, all records, papers, documents and any other properties properly belonging to the office of Secretary.ARTICLE 6.TREASURER.Section 1. The Treasurer shall receive and disburse all money of the Teague, shall keep accurate books of account of all transactions of the Teague, which shall always be open5to the inspection of the Directors; he shall sign in behalf of the League all commercial paper, and shall perform such other duties as shall from time to time be prescribed by the Directors. He shall give such bonds as the Directors may require. In the absence or disability of the Treasurer, the Executive Com­mittee may designate some person with power to act in his stead. There may also be an Assistant Treasurer appointed who shall perform such duties as may be designated by the Treasurer or Executive Committee.Sec. 2. At the expiration of his term of office, the Treasurer shall turn over to his successor all moneys and all papers and documents and any other properties properly belonging to the office of the Treasurer.ARTICLE 7.POWER OF BOARD OF DIRECTORS.Section 1. The Board of Directors shall have the general management of the affairs of the League, and general management and control of its business. They may hold meetings at such date and place as they may determine. They may make rules and regulations not inconsistent with the constitution, governing the agents, employees and servants of the League, and the conduct of its affairs and business. They shall fix the compensation from time to time of all agents, employees and servants, they may fill vacancies in its own number or in any other office of the League, which are caused by resignation, death, failure to elect or otherwise. The officers so elected are to hold office until the next annual meeting of the League, and until their successors are duly elected and qualified.Sec. 2. The Board of Directors may create and appoint such committees as they may deem necessary for the purpose of carrying on the work of the League, and shall prescribe the duties of such committees, and the rules and regulations for the conduct of the affairs of such committees.Sec. 3. They may make such by-laws for the govern­ment of the League as they may deem necessary, and which are not inconsistent with this constitution. They may amend and alter the by-laws at will.6ARTICLE 8.EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE.Section 1. There shall be an Executive Committee consisting of the President and six members chosen by and from the Board of Directors, one of whom shall be from among the Directors at large. The Executive Committee shall, except as limited by vote of the Board of Directors, have the management of the business and of the affairs of the League, and may authorize the execution of all such contracts, papers and documents as may be required for the conduct of the business.ARTICLE 9.FINANCE COMMITTEE.Section 1. The Board of Directors shall appoint a Finance Committee of five members and shall define the duties of such committee.ARTICLE 10.Section 1 . The annual meeting of the members of the League shall be held in the month of November in each year, the day and hour to be fixed by the Executive Committee. The first annual meeting shall be held at Portland, and the second at Bangor, and thereafter at such time and place as may be designated.Sec. 2. Special M eetings. Special meetings may be called by the Executive Committee and shall be called when petitioned for by ten or more directors, or by forty members of the League.ARTICLE 11.MEMBERSHIP.Section 1. Regular M embers. The regular member­ship of the League shall be composed of residents of the State of Maine, who shall sign the roll of membership or make written application to the Secretary, and pay annual dues for one year in advance. The membership to begin with written acceptance by the Secretary.7Sec. 2. Contributing M embers. All members who annually contribute more than the annual dues to the current expenses of the League shall be enrolled as contributing members.Sec. 3. Sustaining M embers. All members of the League who annually contribute $100.00 or more to the current expenses of the League, or to any guarantee fund needed for the purpose of carrying on the work of the League, shall be enrolled as sustaining members.Sec. 4. N on-Residents. Non-residents may become regular members when their application receives the approval of the Executive Committee.ARTICLE 12.DUES.Section  1. The annual dues of the regular members shall be $1.00 payable in advance. Failure to pay dues within thirty (30) days after notice that dues are payable shall con­stitute forfeiture of membership.ARTICLE 13.QUORUMSection 1. At least twenty-five members shall be required for a quorum at all meetings of the League. A majority of the Directors and a majority of the Executive Committee shall be required to constitute a quorum at all meetings of the Directors, or of the Executive Committee.ARTICLE 14.am en d m e n t s .This constitution may be amended at any regular or special meeting of the League called for that purpose by the affirmative vote of three-fourths of the qualified voters present, provided that public notice shall have previously been given by notice published in three newspapers, no two of which shall be published in the same County, and by written notice to each officer and Director, setting forth the proposed amend­ment, at least thirty (30) days previous to days of said meet­ings.8
