This paper examines the roles of women in Louisa May Alcott’s children’s novels and the ways the author subverts and reinforces society’s expectations of women through her wildly popular writing. It primarily discusses Little Women (1868), An Old-Fashioned Girl (1870), Little Men (1871), Eight Cousins (1875), Rose in Bloom (1876), and Jo’s Boys (1886)
