Residents’ oral health profile on Figueirinha neighborhood in Xangri-lá city, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

Abstract

Conforme o novo preceito do SUS, que ao instituir a Estratégia Saúde da Família passou a nortear suas ações de acordo com as condições de vida e as necessidades dos seus usuários, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo fazer um levantamento das condições de saúde bucal da população residente no Bairro Figueirinha, no município de Xangri-Lá, RS. A partir do levantamento dos dados socioeconômicos da comunidade, constatou-se que a população é muito jovem, que possui uma baixa renda familiar e um nível de escolaridade igualmente muito baixo. A população vive em moradias com péssimas condições de infra-estrutura, sem saneamento básico. Referente a condição bucal, foram encontrados nesta população altos Índices de Placa Visível(74,7%), Sangramento Gengival (63,6%) e Experiência de Cárie, o que retrata um perfil de uma comunidade carente referente aos cuidados com a saúde e higiene bucal. Indivíduos jovens apresentaram um grande número de dentes cariados e adultos alto número de dentes perdidos. Assim, pode-se concluir que esta população necessita de políticas públicas que incluam medidas de saúde geral e bucal curativas, educativas e preventivas.Under the new provision of the Unified health System ( SUS ), by establishing the Family Health Strategy to guide its actions ,according living conditions and needs of their users ,this study aimed to make a survey about the oral health status of the Xangri-Lá, RS ‘s Figueirinha neighborhood population .From the survey of the community’s socioeconomic data , it was found that the population to be considered in the study is young, and has also the following characteristics : low incomes and low levels of education.. The population lives with poor infrastructure conditions and without basic sewage. Referring to the population’s oral conditions , it was found high occurrences of Visible Plaque ( 74.7 % ), Gingival bleeding ( 63.6 %) and elevated caries indexes, which depicts a profile of a poor community concerning health care and oral hygiene conditions. Young people showed a high number of decayed teeth and adults a big number of missing teeth.Thus , it can be concluded that this population requires public policies that include oral and general health curative, preventive and educational measures
