Frierson was the 2000 recipient ofthe Lindberg Award for her achievements as anoutstanding scholar and teacher in the College ofLiberal Arts.In her address, "Mysteries of History and Memory inRussian Historical Research," Frierson will discuss thecircumstances surrounding her access to archives inMoscow and provincial towns in Russia since 1984. Areception in the dean's office in Murkland Hall willbegin at 3 p.m., followed by the address at 3:30 p.m. inroom 110 of Murkland. Both the reception and addressare free and open to the public.Following tradition, Robert Mair, professor ofpsychology at UNH, will receive this year's LindbergAward at the ceremony. Nominated by students andcolleagues, Mair is an internationally known researcherof neurobiological models of memory loss (amnesia).His work has increased scientists' understanding of theetiology of and memory deficits associated withKorsakoff's disease, which is caused by the thiaminedeficiency often seen in alcoholics. Ultimately, thiscould lead to the development of a drug treatment forthe disease.The annual Lindberg Award was established by theCollege of Liberal Arts in 1986 in memory of ProfessorGary Lindberg of the Department of English.
