Oct. 17, 1918 My dear Brother –   Here I am just con- valescing from an attack of the  Spanish Flu + while Im getting my strength back Im going to get a few of my long delayed letters off. I know Im a peach at this game and only hope you do not hold me up too much for it. Im about like you so I guess you understand.  We were all more than glad to hear that you had gone into the Service and say kid – our most sincere wishes for your advancement are always with you. We all surely hope that dear old Uncle Sam may ship you out here for awhile and if he                      [[Nick Dante 8/20/15]]  [[Page 5 - Letter]]             2   does – what a grand + glorious time we will have. Say but it will be  great to see you in uniform again + this time for business. I know I only wish [[strikethrough]] at?[/strikethrough]] that I were able to be with you and help out a little more myself. Say El – if you get any snaps of yourself shoot[[?]] one or two along as I would like like the du[[--]] to get one of you in uniform. If you have one now why the sooner the quicker as we are getting a few snaps together for Julia. She expects to leave for Guam soon + we all feel sorry for her. That is about the last place I would care  to see her go to as its so[[strikethrough]]o[[/strikethrough]] out                          [[Nick Dante 8/20/15]]  [[Page 6 - Letter]]             3  of the way and Im afraid it will be pretty lonesome for the kid there. But someone has to go so I guess she may as well be the one. A few pictures of yourself + Em would do a lot of  good in the collection so don’t be afraid of sending too many. There maybe now you are beginning to realize that we really wantem[[?]] [[underline]]We do[[/underline]]. so dont forget it.  Jessie also was also a victim of the influenza + she is also taking things easy here with me. The doctor shot me to the hospital for a few days and when I got back I found Jessie in bed with the same symptoms. I had to stay in bed for a week + now                          [[Nick Dante 8/20/15]]  [[Page 7 - Letter]]             4  Im just trying to get strong. It  surely does leave you weak +  useless. We have had a woman staying with us for some time + doing the work + it surely saved us as we couldn’t get anyone to come in for love or money. This woman surely is a jewel and has taken care of both of us + the kids + has done all of the work to boot.  It has been nearly two weeks now since I came home sick + Ill be glad when I can get back to work. Say Im having one – of a time trying to get this letter written as Im keeping both kids quiet so Jessie can take a nap. Its some job and I no sooner                          [[Nick Dante 8/20/15]]  [[Page 8 - Letter]] 5  get started than its stop + pull them apart. What on cant think of the two of them usually can and then the fun begins. They both missed the Flu but that’s about all as they can usually find anything + miss nothing.  I suppose you have heard of the  action as taken by the court regarding the partial distribution of the estate. A request was made to distribute up to 75% of the estate but the court through down the appeal + stated that they would allow up to that amount to each one if they so requested. It doesn’t mean any additional ex- pense on any one – only the signing up of papers + having                          [[Nick Dante 8/20/15]]  [[Page 9 - Letter]]             6 them sworn to + then filed before court. If you want any action taken let me know + Ill try + find out just what action will be necessary in your case.  Well Elmo don’t put off writing till after Xmas or Ill go right after you. Do it now + don’t forget those pictures. Don’t say you havent any – Films + cheap + we only want a few snaps. That’s the candy – be a sport. [[Nick Dante 8/20/15]]  [[Page 10 - Letter]]             7              [[underline]]Thurs 10/17/18[[/underline]]  Latter –  Ive just been down to see Mr. Clark- Atty. For the estate + I signed up my papers. I asked about you + he says that all you will have to do to get the balance of your estate up to the allotted 75% which will be exactly $450.00 is to have a power of Atty. made out to me + have it sworn to before [[strikethrough]]an atty.[[/strikethrough]] a notary there + forward it i[[--o-]] to me. Maybe if you want this now + if you take immediate action it may get here in time to go there with the rest of ours + it will  cost you considerably less as we intend to handle this all                         [[Nick Dante 8/20/15]]  [[Page 11 - Letter]]             8 together. So its either – speed or wait for awhile. Im mailing this tonight – Thursday + you aught to have it by Monday + can get started providing you want it.       Well [[1 word]] top-  since writing you this letter – that is the first part I have only written 67 other pages + have caught up on a little of my back correspondence to the boys from our store who are over there. All letters from  4 to 10 pgs. + that’s going some for me.   George
