Great Bay Coast Watch volunteers join Bottomline
Technologies and Timberland employees for a coastal
clean-up of Dover's Hilton Park Wednesday, Sept. 11.
The effort is part of the United Way of the Greater
Seacoast's Day of Caring and the New Hampshire
Coastal Clean-up.
The Day of Caring is held annually at Seacoast
nonprofit agency sites. Last year nearly 1,700
volunteers participated.
"Participating in the Day of Caring is a chance for us to
thank the United Way for its help in finding volunteers
for our water quality monitoring efforts," says Ann
Reid, Great Bay Coast Watch coordinator. "We're able
to help the community while sharing our work with a
new audience."
Volunteers will remove debris while keeping records of
what is found. The data will be forwarded to the New
Hampshire Coastal Program and used to track sources
of coastal debris. The clean-up is one of many that take
place every fall during the New Hampshire Coastal
Clean-up, part of the International Coastal Clean-up.
Last year nearly a million volunteers from around the
globe participated, clearing tons of debris from
coastlines, rivers and lakes.
Great Bay Coast Watch is a volunteer water quality
monitoring program supported by N.H. Sea Grant and
UNH Cooperative Extension.
