Moral Permissibility of Euthanasia

Abstract

Ústředním motivem bakalářské práce je problematika eutanazie a otázka její morální přípustnosti. V úvodu je pozornost věnována eutanazii od jejich prvopočátků až po současnost. V první kapitole definuji základní pojmy jako je eutanazie, sebevražda, asistovaná sebevražda a vražda. Dále se eutanazie dělí na jednotlivé typy, které si uvádíme a podle nichž se dále orientujeme v celé práci. Po tomto základním rozlišení se pozastavujeme nad eutanazií z hlediska etického i právního. Ve druhé kapitole se setkáváme s negativními názory na morální přípustnost eutanazie. Argumenty proti eutanazii jsou předkládány pohledem Marka Váchy a J. Davida Vellemana, kteří vidí problém v postmoderní době, ve které už člověk nechápe smysl utrpení, a také vyjadřují svůj názor proti uzákonění eutanazie. V kapitole třetí se pak zabývám obhajobou eutanazie, které se věnuji prostřednictvím textů Tomáše Hříbka a Davida Shawa. Jejich ryze utilitaristická pozice, která se týká obou autorů, obsahuje názor na odstraňování nepříjemné smrti ve prospěch klidného umírání. Bakalářská práce by nás tedy měla seznámit s obhajobou morální přípustnosti eutanazie, ale i s názory zapřísáhlých odpůrců této problematiky.The central theme of this work is the problem of euthanasia and the question of its moral permissibility. The introduction focusses on euthanasia from its earliest beginnings to the present. In the first chapter, I define the basic terms, such as euthanasia, suicide, assisted suicide and murder. Further, euthanasia is divided into different types that we present and on which we focus on throughout the work. After this primary distinction we consider euthanasia from the ethical and law point of view. In the second chapter, we present negative ideas of moral permissibility of euthanasia. Arguments against to euthanasia are presented by Marek Vácha and J. David Velleman, who see the problem in the post-modern time, in which persons don?t understand the meaning of suffering and they express their opinion against the legalization of euthanasia. The third chapter I deal with the defense of euthanasia, through the texts of Tomáš Hříbek and David Shaw. Their purely utilitarian position implies the view that opinion of eliminating unpleasant death in favour of calm dying. Bachelor thesis should therefore present us with the defense of the moral permissibility of euthanasia, as well as with the opinions of the opponents of this issue.Katedra filosofi
