Clean Energy: Challenges and Opportunities

Abstract

Clean generation of electricity is a key component of a system required to bring about long-term sustainable development. Diverse energy fuel supply promotes appropriate utilization of indigenous resources and lessens national and regional risk. Critical issues in the development of energy resources also caught the government\u27s attention to provide acceptable technologies in the market. With the projected energy consumption increasing in all sectors while conventional fuels volatility and uncertainties in oil rich countries leads the government to seek technologies for alternative sources. The forces around the energy industry seeking reliable, low-cost, clean, and sustainable electric power led for the government to re-examine its energy policies. Greater use of renewable energy offers the potential to reduce the environmental impacts of the electricity generation sector. Alliances of public and private sector will greatly improve the efficiency of the research and development of renewable energy technologies, the proper allocation of resources and the immediate achievement of goals. The government should provide incentives and mandates the energy industry to support the use of renewable energies as an alternative source of electricity generation coincidental to the target economic growth, sustainable energy supply and cleaner environment. In this report, the different types of renewal energy technologies were investigated and showed their current and future contribution in the United States (U.S.) current and future energy industry. The issues, barriers, and strategies about the topic were also been presented
