Mastoid osteoma

Abstract

Osteomas are rare, slow growing benign osteogenic tumours, which are almost exclusively seen in flat bones of the skull and face, usually in the frontoethmoid area. Temporal bone osteoma is very rare. Authors present a case of a 55-year-old female patient with large osteoma of the mastoid process of the right temporal bone, which had been growing steadily during a 10-year period. The patient was asymptomatic, except for cosmetic deformity. After clinical examination, surgery was performed for cosmetic reasons and histopathological diagnosis. The tumor was removed completely. Follow-up CT scans taken three years after the surgery treatment showed no evidence of recurrence
