Effects of hypoactive sexual desire disorder in women

Abstract

Background and Aim : Hypoactive sexual desire disorder is the most common form of sexual dysfunction among women. Regarding to high prevalence of sexual desire disorder and its physical, psychological and social consequences the aim of this study was to investigate the impacts of sexual desire disorder in women. Methods : This systematic review study was done with searching Electronic databases such as Medline, Pub med, Science direct and SID for the following key words: Hypoactive sexual desire disorder, Low sexual and women Results : women with HSDD had significantly fewer sexual events (defined as sexual intercourse, oral sex, partner-initiated or self masturbation).They experience greater health burdens, including more comorbid medical conditions, and were nearly twice as likely to report fatigue, depression, memory problems, back pain, and lower quality of life (QOL) .women distressed about low sexual desire also experienced negative emotional states associated with their low desire. The negative consequences of low desire are feeling less feminine, feeling sexual failure, low self-esteem, insecurity, inadequacy and humiliation and finally distress will be associated with depression. Conclusion : The findings suggest that HSDD can affect women's physical and psychological health, quality of life and interpersonal relationships
