Republika Hrvatska, kao pomorska država, ima osobit interes pratiti unifikacijske težnje u uređenju pomorskopravnih odnosa. Hrvatska je poglavito dužna ratificirati i primjenjivati konvencije i dogovore iz područja sigurnosti plovidbe, njihove česte izmjene i dopune (osobito SOLAS), jer je riječ o danas općeprihvaćenim međunarodnim obvezama koje brodovi moraju ispunjavati ako žele nesmetano uplovljavati u inozemne luke. Isto je tako neosporno da su interesi RH u pomorskom poduzetništvu prihvaćanje novih međunarodnih konvencija, odnosno njihovih izmjena i dopuna, na području pomorskog imovinskog prava te njihovo što dosljednije ozakonjenje u domaćem pravu. Stoga se moramo prilagođavati i suvremenim težnjama za povišenjem granica odgovornosti i pooštrenjem odgovornosti pomorskog poduzetnika u zaštiti oštećenih osoba (npr. u slučaju onečišćenja mora ili u prijevozu putnika). U Republici Hrvatskoj se ostvaruju ciljevi ujednačavanja pomorskog prava u izmjenama i dopunama Pomorskog zakonika.The Republic of Croatia, as a maritime state, has a particular interest in following unification aspirations in the ordering of maritime law relations. Croatia especially has a duty to ratify and apply the conventions and agreements from the area of navigational safety and their frequent changes and amendments (particularly SOLAS). This is because it concerns the generally accepted international obligations which vessels must fulfill if they wish to freely enter and leave international ports. Similarly, it is undoubtedly in the interests of the Republic of Croatia in the area of maritime business to emphatically accept new international conventions, that is the changes and amendments, in the area of maritime commercial law and to legislate them as consistently as possible in domestic law. Therefore, we must also conform to the modern aspirations that increase levels of liability and step up the liability of the maritime operator in protecting injured parties, for example in sea pollution or transport of passengers.
