ETHNOLOGY OF POST-SOCIALISM AND BEFORE. Or: Twelve Years after "Ethnology of Socialism and after" (Summary)

Abstract

The aim of the paper is to point out some of the conceptual and methodological issues of the research of culture after socialism, that is, from the viewpoint of the experience-methodological acquirements of European ethnology and anthropology during the past fifteen years. Between what used to be the anthropology in socialism and the contemporary anthropology after socialism, a hiatus of anthropology of socialism as an understated conceptualisation of a cultural period is being founded. In other words, the socialist culture has almost always been looked into from some other angle (traditional national culture, culture of everyday life, culture of West European circle, cultures of post-socialist wars and nationalisms, cultures of transition of Southeastern European societies, etc). Does it make sense to found an intrinsic cultural identity of this period today and what problems accompany the these attempts
