Genetically modified organisms (GMOS) in human nutrition

Abstract

Autori su u radu prezentirali pregled sadašnje globalne situacije s različitim vidovima primjene genetski modificiranih organizama (GMO). Glavni akcent je dat izvorima i razlozima za široku teoretsku debatu o uključenju GMO-a u lanac prehrane. Glavne sadašnje i buduće prednosti primjene GMO-a u ljudskoj prehrani su također prezentirane. Pored toga, opisane su i osnovne karakteristike principa i smjernica za međunarodnu trgovinu, kontrolu i procjenu rizika GMO-a, naročito hrane bazirane na GMO-ima, kao i neke najznačajnije političke refleksije globalne debate o prihvatljivosti upotrebe GMO-a u prehrani ljudi. Na kraju, pitanje sadašnje međunarodne, regionalne i bosanskohercegovačke legislative o GMO-ima je ukratko analizirano.In this paper authors presented an overview of current global situation regarding various means of application of genetically modified organisms (GMOs).The major accent was given to sources and reasons for a wide theoretical debate on entrance of GMOs in food chain. Also major present and future advantages and assumed disadvantages of application of GMOs in human nutrition were presented. In addition, basic characteristics of principles and guidelines for international trade, control and risk assessment of GMOs, particularly foods derived from GMOs, as well as some major political reflections of global debate on acceptability of use of GMOs for human consumption were described. Finally, current international, regional and Bosnian legislation on GMOs were briefly analyzed
