U radu su opisane glavne konstrukcijske značajke odabranih njujorških mostova, uz isticanje razvitka i inovacija u visećim i lučnim sklopovima. Dan je osvrt na proračun, temeljenje, gradiva, održavanje i rekonstrukcije mostova. Prikazani su osnovni podaci o graditeljima i njihovu pristupu projektiranju te o načinu građenja tih mostova. Ističe se važnost cjelovitoga inženjerskog sagledavanja mosta pri planiranju prijelaza, projektiranju, izvedbi i održavanju kroz životni vijek.Major structural features of some selected New York bridges are presented, with an emphasis on the development and innovations in the sphere of suspension and arch systems. An overview is given of the budget, foundation work, materials, maintenance and rehabilitation of bridges. Principal data about builders and their approach to design process are given, and construction methods used for the described bridges are presented. Authors point to the significance of an integral engineering perception of bridge projects, encompassing initial planning of the crossing, design, construction and maintenance in the course of useful life of the structure
