News                                                                                                                                                                                  KiG, 2002, 196GIS POLONIA 2001Warsaw, 15-17 October 2001From the 15th till 17th October 2001 the conferenceGIS POLONIA 2001 was held in the capital of Poland,Warsaw, and the Warsaw Technical University waselected a host of the conference.Warsaw is the town that was completely ruined duringthe Second World War. After its temporary liberation bythe resistance movement, the Germans bombed it andmined as a revenge, but after a few years the centre ofcompletely ruined town got its appearance identical tothe one it have had before the war. Since the ruins ofVukovar have been falling apart for 10 years already,the reconstruction of the old centre of Warsawcharacterised by precision and rapid realisation could beused as an example showing that it is possible toreconstruct not only the outer looks of constructionobjects, but their inner contents as well, if there isenough will, knowledge, and of course fund to do it.The organisers of the conference were the faculties andassociations from Poland and Croatia- Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography at the WarsawTechnical University- GIS Forum  Croatian GIS Association- Faculty of Geosciences, Faculty of MechanicalEngineering in Silesia- Faculty of Geodesy, University of Zagrebso the exchange of knowledge and experiences shouldbe done without any problems.The sponsors had a very prominent place in thepreparation of the conference along with organisers:- State Geodetic Administration of the Republic ofCroatia- Polish Commission for UNESCO- Croatian Commission for UNESCO- EURONATUR  European Fund for Natural Heritage,Germany- INA  Croatian Oil Company- Polish Association of GeodesistsThe Conference started at the winter royal castleWilanow. A small lady full of energy helped us toimagine the life of Polish royal family during the 17th,18th and 19th centuries leading us through a beautifulcastle and gardens. The apartments from that time aredecorated with original decorations and furniture, andthe garden has been created and arranged during threecenturies. They are listed among the most significantartistic values of Poland.The conference was opened at the WarsawTechnological University dating from the year 1826 andit is the greatest institution of that sort in Poland with its20 000 students and 2653 employees. In a relaxedatmosphere we were welcome by the vice-chancellor ofthe University, Prof. Dr. Stanislaw Bolkowski, and theDean of the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography, Prof.Dr. Piotr Sklodowski who made us familiar with thehistory and constitution of the university and faculty inEnglish and Polish. Prof. Dr. Miljenko Lapaine bidwelcome to the participants in his name and in the nameof the Faculty of Geodesy, and informed them about thefoundation of the Croatian Cartographic Society.Vijesti                                                                                                                                                                                  KiG, 2002, 197GIS POLONIA 2001Varava, 15-17. listopada 2001.Od 15. do 17. listopada 2001. u Varavi, glavnom graduPoljske, odrana je konferencija GIS POLONIA 2001, akao domaćin konferencije izabrano je varavskoTehnoloko sveučilite.Varava je tijekom Drugoga svjetskog rata sruenagotovo do temelja. Nakon to je pokret otporaprivremeno oslobodio grad, za odmazdu su ga Nijemcibombardirali i minirali, no sredite potpuno unitenogagrada već nakon par godina poprima izgled identičanonom prije rata. Kako vukovarske ruevine već desetgodina propadaju, rekonstrukcija varavske staregradske jezgre mogla bi po svojoj preciznosti i brziniposluiti kao primjer kako je uz volju, znanje i naposefinancije moguće obnoviti ne samo vanjski izgledgrađevina, već gotovo u potpunosti rekonstruirati iunutranjost.Izmjena znanja i iskustava trebala bi teći nesmetanobudući da su organizatori konferencije bili fakulteti iudruge iz Poljske i Hrvatske:- Fakultet za geodeziju i kartografiju varavskogaTehnolokog sveučilita- GIS Forum  Hrvatska GIS udruga- Fakultet za geoznanosti, Strojarski fakultet u Silesiji- Geodetski fakultet Sveučilita u ZagrebuUz organizatore istaknuto su mjesto u pripremikonferencije zauzimali i pokrovitelji:- Dravna geodetska uprava Republike Hrvatske- Poljska komisija za UNESCO- Hrvatska komisija za UNESCO- EURONATUR  Europski fond za prirodno naslijeđe,Njemačka- INA  Hrvatska naftna kompanija- Udruenje poljskih geodetaKonferencija je za nas počela u zimskom kraljevskomdvorcu Wilanow. Sitna gospođa puna energije vodilanas je kroz prekrasan dvorac i perivoje te nam dočaralaivot poljske kraljevske obitelji tijekom 17., 18. i 19.stoljeća. Apartmani iz toga doba ukraeni originalnimdekoracijama i namjetajem, te vrt kreiran i dorađivantijekom tri stoljeća, spadaju u najznačajnije umjetničkevrijednosti Poljske.Konferencije je otvorena na varavskome Tehnolokomsveučilitu, koje datira jo od 1826. i sa svojih 20 000studenata i 2653 djelatnika najveća je ustanova te vrsteu Poljskoj. U oputenoj atmosferi dobrodolicu su namzaeljeli prorektor Sveučilita prof. dr. StanislawBolkowski te dekan Fakulteta za geodeziju ikartografiju prof. dr. Piotr Sklodowski, koji su nas tona poljskome, to na engleskome upoznali s povijeću iustrojem sveučilita i fakulteta. Prof. dr. The editors of the Proceedings EdwardNowak and Davorin Kereković have also designed CDROM with all papers recorded on it along withnumerous information about organisers, sponsors,topics...Warsaw publictraffic is verywell organised,and the city plansvery precise sothat we were ableto roam throughstreets of Warsawalready on thesecond daywithout anytroubles, afterbeing a littlepuzzled withCongress Centreand its distancefrom the city.The mainshopping street isfull of shops, butif you have beenthinking about the postcommunist Poland offering lawprices, you are mistaken. Almost everything isexpensive, from fur and leather to food and coffee in therestaurants (if you manage to order it, because thePolish prefer tea in every situation).And we have experienced unusual nutritional habitsduring organised lunch and dinner events. Our beliefthat sweet food goes for desert exclusively fell apart;the combination of meat and marmalade is excellent,especially taken with ubrowka, a special sort of Polishvodka.The second day of the Conference was spent in theConference Centre. About twenty participants fromCroatia presented their report within all five sessionsproving thus the extent to which GIS is penetrating allsocial spheres.Katastar Koprivnica, Faculty of Geodesy Zagreb,Hydrographic Institute Split, GZAOP Zagreb, INAZagreb, Faculty of Forestry Zagreb, Faculty ofOrganisation and Informatics Varadin and Faculty ofEconomy Osijek have presented themselves with theirworks at the Conference.This Conference, as many others of the same type, areinteresting because of the possibility to exchangeinformation and experiences from various scientificfield. The complexity of geoinformation systemsdemands the co-ordination of experts coming from awide range of social and natural sciences, as well asfrom the part of the society that is not primarily orientedto GIS, but through its every day activity provides andsupplements thesystems withnew information.Considering suchcomplexinformationstructure, theconclusion of theconference isexpressedthrough the factthat theapplicationpossibilities ofGIS are infinite.And at the endagain the ladyappearing at thebeginning andthe reconstructedroyal castleKrolewski thathad its antiquities kept by the inhabitants of Warsaw intheir cellars. Sightseeing of the old town of Warsaw andbuying the only cheap article  silver with amber.Ljiljana Plee, Vanja Miljković, Sanja amanovićDvorac Wilanow, detaljCastle Wilanow, a detailVijesti                                                                                                                                                                                  KiG, 2002, 199Geodetskog fakulteta, te izvijestio skup o osnivanjuHrvatskoga kartografskog drutva.Konferencija je tematski bila podijeljena u tri skupine:- Uloga geoinformacijskih sustava u upravljanjuprostorom- Upravljanje kulturnim i prirodnim naslijeđem- Upravljanje okoliem.Mnogobrojni pristigli radovi za potrebe prezentacijerazdijeljeni su unutar pet sjednica:- Geodezija  Katastar  Kartografija- Upravljanje kulturnim i prirodnim naslijeđem &Projekti rekonstrukcije- Ekologija- Informatika- Ekonomija i pravoPrva sjednica Geodezija  Katastar  Kartografijaodrana je na Tehnolokom sveučilitu, a ostale četiri uvaravskome Konferencijskom centru.Svi radovi razvrstani po sjednicama, zajedno sinformacijama o autorima, objavljeni su u Zbornikuradova pod nazivom GIS POLONIA 2001 (ISBN 953-6129-20-5). Urednici Zbornika Edward Nowak iDavorin Kereković osmislili su i CD ROM, na kojem suobjavljenim radovima dodali mnogobrojne informacijeo organizatorima, sponzorima i temama.Varavski javni prijevoz organiziran je izvrsno, aplanovi su grada precizni tako da smo, nakon prvezbunjenosti Kongresnim centrom i njegovomudaljenoću od grada, već drugoga dana suverenovladali varavskim ulicama.Glavna trgovačka ulica puna je stranih trgovina, no akoste pomislili da postkomunistička Poljska nudi niskecijene, prevarili ste se. Skupo je gotovo sve, od krzna ikoe do hrane i kave u restoranima (ako je uspijetenaručiti, jer Poljaci su u svim prilikama skloniji čaju).A neobične prehrambene navike iskusili smo tijekomorganiziranih ručkova i večera. Poljaci su nas razuvjeriliu tome kako zaslađena hrana ide samo kao desert;kombinacija mesa i marmelade odlična je, posebno akoje zalijevana ubrowkom, posebnom vrstom poljskevotke.Drugi dan konferencije protekao je u Konferencijskomcentru. Dvadesetak sudionika iz Hrvatske prezentirali sureferate unutar svih pet sjednica, čime su dokazalikoliko GIS prodire u sve sfere drutva.Na konferenciji su se svojim radovima predstaviliKatastar Koprivnica, Geodetski fakultet Zagreb,Hrvatski hidrografski institut Split, GZAOP Zagreb,INA Zagreb, umarski fakultet Zagreb, Fakultetorganizacije i informatike Varadin i Ekonomskifakultet Osijek.Zanimljivost te, kao i ostalih konferencija sličnog tipa,mogućnost je razmjene informacija i iskustava izrazličitih znanstvenih područja. Sloenostgeoinformacijskih sustava zahtijeva koordinacijustručnjaka irokog raspona drutvenih i prirodnihznanosti, kao i onog dijela drutva koje primarno nijeusmjereno na GIS, ali koje kroz svoju svakodnevnudjelatnost omogućuje opskrbu i nadopunjavanje sustavasvjeim informacijama. S obzirom na tako sloenuinformacijsku strukturu, kao zaključak cijelekonferencije nameće se: mogućnosti su primjene GIS-a neograničene.I za sam kraj ponovno gospođa s početka i obnovljenikraljevski dvorac Krolewski, čije su antikvitete tijekomratnih razaranja u podrumima čuvali stanovnici Varave.Razgledanje starog dijela Varave i kupovina jedinogjeftinog artikla, srebra s jantarom.Ljiljana Plee Vanja Miljković Sanja amanović
