Professor Josip Tiπljar has previously published 3books: Petrologija sedimentnih stijena (Petrology ofSedimentary Rocks; Faculty of Mining, Geology andPetroleum Engineering of the University of Zagreb,1987), Sedimentne stijene (Sedimentary Rocks; ©kols-ka knjiga, Zagreb, 1994) and Petrologija s osnovamamineralogije (Petrology with Basics of Mineralogy;Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum Engineeringof the University of Zagreb, 1999), all written in Croat-ian. His fourth book is completely dedicated to his spe-ciality - carbonate sedimentology.Carbonate sedimentology is one of the geologicaldisciplines that has progressed immensely in the lastthirty years. Therefore this book, as the first Croatianbook completely dedicated to this field, will represent atextbook for students, handbook for everyday use formany geologists, and a source of detailed informationfor specialists, needed for solving specific problems incarbonate rocks. The book is written very clearly, and ischaracterised by a very mindful approach to this widescientific field, with specific emphasis on Croatianexamples (almost all the photographs were collected bythe author or his collaborators, during extensive investi-gations of the Adriatic Carbonate Platform).The book “Sedimentologija karbonata i evaporita”was reviewed by Dr. Sc. Igor VlahoviÊ, Dr. Sc. Ivo Ve-liÊ and Academician Vladimir Majer, the publisher isthe Institute of Geology, Zagreb - represented byM r. Sc. –uro BenËek, and was prepared by Ivo VeliÊ,editor-in-chief, and Igor VlahoviÊ, managing editor.
