In the article the modern state of cartography is given and it is analysed influence of computer technologies (in particular geographic information systems) on creation, exploitation and also on the change of maintenance, setting and application of cartographic materials, development of cartographic services. The authors outlined the prospects for the development of cartography, creation, management and use of spatial maps as a key element of mapping the future. In the research identified the current role of the map, as a specific interface between the person and the information about the area, presented in the form of databases.
