KUSKAYA: An Interdisciplinary Training Programfor Innovation in Global Health, is led by the University PeruanaCayetano Heredia (UPCH), Lima, Peru and the University ofWashington (UW), Seattle, USA, supported by the Fogarty Inter-national Center, which aims to provide terminal degree studentsfrom different disciplines with training and practical research expe-rience to develop and evaluate innovative policies, products andprocesses in global health. Kuskaya means “working together” inQuechua, a Peruvian language.Structure: KUSKAYA pairs US and Peruvian Fellows fromdiverse fields (including architecture, anthropology, health sciences,economics, policy and engineering) to conduct multidisciplinaryresearch projects, guided by US and Peruvian mentors. They receivetraining in leadership, research ethics and integrity, implementationscience, and key skills related to the research life cycle whileconducting a 1-year pilot global health research project.Outcome & Evaluation: In the first year of the program, we choseeight Fellows from 46 applications which formed three researchteams: 1) One health; 2) Climate change and health, and 3) Phar-macies, TB and Information and Communication Technologies.Fellows participated in key activities during their training, includingthe COP 20 in December 2013 in Lima, Peru, various symposiumsand conferences, and won several awards for abstracts and oralpresentations. In the second year of the program, we have received72 applications, and chose 12 Fellows and 3 Senior Fellows to form8 research teams.Going Forward: Young professionals in disciplines not histori-cally integrated in health research are seeking opportunities tomake a positive impact in public health. Hu3; 1Facultyof Arts and Science, University of Toronto, Toronto, ON, Canada,2Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, Toronto, ON, Canada, 3TheDalla Lana School of Public Health, Toronto, ON, CanadaProgram/Project Purpose: We reviewed, critically analyzed andcompared all existing Bachelor’s-level global health programsoffered in English to inform the development of an undergraduatecurriculum that is innovative, student-centered, and poised to createfuture global health leaders.Structure/Method/Design: The identification of existing under-graduate global health programs was conducted in February2015 by searching the Consortium of Universities forGlobal Health Database and official university websites. We iden-tified fourteen suitable undergraduate programs that focus onglobal health, are majors towards a bachelor’s or joint bachelors-masters degree, and are offered in English. We compiled datafrom publicly available information published online by theuniversities.Outcome & Evaluation: There are substantial differences in theoversight, structure, accreditation and teaching methods in globalhealth undergraduate programs. Each school addresses its missionby providing graduates with core competencies to facilitate theirentry into the workforce or continuing studies. By comparingcommonalities between the fourteen curricula, we identified six areasof taught competency, including epidemiology, statistics, secondarylanguage, dissertation, field experience and study abroad programs.We identified several overarching themes, including a strong prac-ticum requirement, basic epidemiology, statistics, and researchmethods training, interdisciplinary courses, a final year thesisproject, a tendency of the program to attract pre-medical students,opportunities for international experience, and recommendation offurther academic training. Our analysis also included commonalitiesand differences related to the taught content, methodology, use oftechnology, philosophy of curricula, student career trajectories andkey deliverables.Going Forward: This study serves to outline existing curricula andcontribute to developing a standardized degree for undergraduateglobal health education. These programs have the potential toengage students, practitioners and faculty in innovative and interdis-ciplinary approaches, such as out-of-the-classroom learning andinter-professional collaboration. This survey also demonstrates thatthere is a lack of standardization for undergraduate global healtheducation. Thus, there is an urgent need for conversations regarding
