Identity and posttraumatic growth in hereditary cancer

Abstract

Along the history of the psico-oncology the concepts of personality and identity of the oncology patients have been used for explaining both the development of the disease and the personal changes induced by the disease. After analyzing the socio-cognitive theories of Janoff-Bulman and Tedeschi and Calhoun about the phenomenon known as post-traumatic growth. We wonder about the possible impact of the models of personal growth and personal identity applied to the fi eld of hereditary cancer and genetic counseling
