Health Economic Evaluation in Physiotherapy

Abstract

Introduction: Health economic evaluation is a method used to show the consequences for both costs and health outcomes when considering new health technologies. In the wake of the latest official report on priorities in the health services this method is relevant and important to understand. Main part: The article goes through a hypothetical health economic evaluation of two physiotherapeutic treatments for meniscal injury. The structure of the article is based on how such evaluations are conducted, step by step. We describe the planning of a study, collecting data, estimating costs and health outcomes, sensitivity analysis, and presentation of results. Conclusion: We sum up and provide suggestions for further reading
