Abstract
Brazil was the only South American country to send troops to Europe during the Great War and acted on four fronts, providing: a Naval Division to patrol the west coast of Africa; A medical mission to set up and operate a military hospital in Paris; A commission of Army officers to study operations in France; And a group of naval aviators to undertake course and subsequently participate in combat air missions. The purpose of this research is to analyze the performance of Brazilian naval (and one Army) aviators in Italy, the United States and United Kingdom during the conflict, and the consequences for the deployment of the nascent air component in the Brazilian Navy and in the Brazilian Army, shedding light on this little-known episode of Brazilian History
