Instituições e território. Possibilidades e limites ao exercício da cidadania

Abstract

In this work we analyze in which way the concrete practice of citizenship is affected by the uneven territorial distribution of institutions which guarantee the access to social rights. We identify the territorial distribution of variables related to part of the institutional apparatus that is available to local societies in Brazil and depend on public agencies and organizations in each municipality. The analysis is divided in three parts. First, we discuss the spatial dimension of the concept of citizenship; secondly, we discuss the importance of the territoriality of institutions; finally, we analyze the distribution of the selected variables, pointing out the conditions for the practice of citizenship in the Brazilian territory
