The catalysts evaluated were commercial zinc oxide, zinc oxide obtained from the spent alkaline anode and zinc oxide prepared employing a biohydrometallurgy process and subsequent precipitation with Na2CO3 and heat treatment. The molar ratio PET/catalyst and PET/ethylene glycol were 100:1 and 1:8, respectively. The reaction temperature was 196°C and the reaction time was 2 h. The PET samples and the purified monomer Bis-(2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalate (BHET) were characterized by FTIR, SEM y RMN. The results indicate that recovered solids have a higher catalyst activity than the commercial oxide and these could work as effective and eco-friendly catalysts in the chemical recycling of PET.Trabajo publicado en Álvarez, María E., Sandra G.
