The role of teachers in working with children with developmental disabilities

Abstract

Tema ovog diplomskog rada je „Uloga učitelja u radu s djecom s teškoćama u razvoju“. Theme of this master’s thesis is “Teacher’s role in working with children with special needs”. First part of the thesis is about understanding the theory. In that part is spoken about students with development disabilities, about types of problems they have, and about their education and upbringing. It is also spoken about planning and programming of educational work with students with development disabilities and there are regular and special plans for these students, which are being used depending on the type and the degree of development disorder that the student has. Teacher’s role is key in work with children with development disabilities, and sometimes even in recognizing disabilities. Research so far showed that teachers still don’t feel competent enough to work with children with development disabilities. Teachers feel insecure, unprepared and unmotivated, and the part that is missing the most is additional education and professional help
