Analysis of trophy values of male roe deer and wild boar in common open hunting ground number IV/120 – „NETRETIĆ“

Abstract

Rezultati istraživanja pokazuju da duljina rogova srnjaka napreduje do sedme godine, a sukladno tome povećava im se masa, volumen i trofejna vrijednost. Sjekači vepra s dobi postaju duži i širi dok mu brusači postaju deblji. This graduate thesis deals with the analysis of the trophy values of male roe deer and wild boar in the common hunting group IV/120 – “Netretić”. During the analysis of roe deer trophy values, antler length, mass and span were analyzed as well as geographical location where the animal has been shot. Wild boar trophy value analysis included measuring the cutter length, the cutter width and the grinder circumference. During the analysis for the purposes of writing this graduate thesis hunting management plans (LGO), trophy measurement forms and ETD forms were used. 120 trophies of roe deer and 35 trophies of wild boar were analyzed. The analysis covered the period from 2005. to 2014. for roe deer and the period from 2005. to 2014. for wild boar. The result of the research shows us that the length of roe deer antlers increased up to seven years, accordingly with the mass, volume and trophy value. Cutters of wild boar tend to become longer and wider with age, as the grinders become thicker. The highest scored trophies of roe deer were shot in hunting area where mosaic types of habitat dominate with emphasis on extensive cultivated agricultural areas and on forest edge areas and near villages. The highest ranked trophy of wild boar was shot in the forest where cover is made by upper age classes trees with a significant share of heavy seeds (beech, oak and chestnut) as well as in neglected agricultural areas
