Abstract
Alzheimer's disease is manifested by the progressive impairment of cognitive abilities and the characteristic appearance of senile plaques, beta-amyloid deposits and neurofibrillary tangle formation in the brain cortex. It is the most frequent cause of dementia as it accounts for over 65% of older people dementia. Women are twice as likely to develop the disease as men. Constant patient care is required, because with the progression of the disease the patient is incapable of independent living and doing daily activities.
The aim of the study is to determine the extent of social prejudice the caregivers are faced with, how much effort is required to provide everyday care, and how they cope with the financial burden.
Methods/participants: For the purpose of the study a questionnaire was compiled, comprising 10 questions based on the research instruments applied in previous research on people with Alzheimer's disease. The participants were 50 caregivers, members of DUSAB association. Research was carried out during the period of three months, from 1st October to 31st December 2017.
Results obtained are shown in tables and graphs.
Conclusion: Majority of the participants points out the financial burden, then social prejudice and overburdening everyday care
