Production and protection of autochthonous agricultural and food products

Abstract

Budući da su upravo ovakvi proizvodi temelj budući razvoj ruralnog područja kao i cjelokupne poljoprivredne djelatnosti, potrebno je raditi na poticanju svijesti potrošača i upoznavanju s pojmom „autohtoni proizvodi“.Autochthonous products are those products that with their quality and uniqueness compete with other products on the global market. They are competetive on the global market because of their tehnological, food and organoleptic specificities. Indigenous products are extremely important for sustainable rural development, the preservation of tradition and indentity of a particular place. Republic of Croatia, in its indigenous products, often uses meat or cheese that also come from protected indigenous breeds. Agricultural and food indigenous products are protected with designation of origin, than with traditional reputation or with geographical origin of the transition and national and European Union level. Because these indigenous products represent foundation for future development of rural areas as well as all agricultural activities, it is necessary to make the efforts to promote consumer awareness and familiarization with the concept of indigenous products
