Results of a research needs of parent of children with risk factors in the Istria county

Abstract

The identification and monitoring of children under risk are important for the recognition of neuro-developmental deviations and treatment in the early childhood as the riskiest period in a child's development. The task to stimulate the optimal growth and development of a child is placed ahead of experts with the aim of developing his/her potentials in the emotional, social and cognitive area, in a surrounding as natural as possible. This research's main aims were to investigate the reverberations of contemporary events of early interventions with parents having children with factors of risk in the County of Istria and to check the parents' level of information with the aim of a better planning of early intervention services. The sample was made by parents having children with factors of risk in the County of Istria (N=112) included in the treatment of the Home for children, young people and adults with cerebral palsy and other special needs in Pula and speech pathologists of the Pula General Hospital. Although the results have shown positive aspects of children's inclusion in early interventions and parents have expressed a high level of satisfaction and information about this context, the conclusion has been reached that early interventions have to be quicker and more available. It is necessary to tend toward a better cooperation between experts, institutions and other participants involved in the planning and giving services to children with developmental difficulties/risks and their parents
