Turbulence in plasmas has been investigated experimentally and numerically. The work described here is divided into four parts:•Experiments on edge turbulence in a single-ended Q-machine. Convective cells are investigated in detail together with the anomalous transport caused by them.•Numerical simulation of the edge turbulence in the Q-machine. This simulation uses spectral methods to solve Euler's question in a cylindrical geometry.•Measurements on wave propagation and the ion beam instability is an unmagnetised plasma with an ion beam with a finite diameter.•Development of software for the automated aquisition of data.
