The relationship between landscape architecture and land art movement

Abstract

Diplomski rad ulazi u prostornu domenu spoja dviju disciplina, u njihove različitosti i sličnosti, a ponajviše ulazi u pitanje obrazovanja i inspiracije autora čiji su projekti nastali unutar krajobrazne arhitekture s naglašenim vizualno - estetskim vrednotama. The knowledge gathered by researching the history of the land art movement, formed a base for further exploration of the movement in recent history. Historical, educational, social and cultural factors all contributed to turning land art into an interdisciplinary product, with a variety of disciplines monitoring its development, the most notable being landscape architecture. The thesis examines the shared ground of the two disciplines, revealing their differences and similarities, but most of all investigates the issue of the author’s education and inspiration for the projects that belong to the field of landscape architecture but have emphasised visual and aesthetic qualities. Taking into account recent literature and land art professionals' input, this master’s thesis reveals a somewhat overlooked visual component of the landscape works in the public space service, but also considers an end user as an indicator of the quality of that public space. Finally, the conducted research was crucial in acquiring knowledge about various public space qualities and about the ways in which land art and landscape architecture are participating in creating the aforementioned qualities
