Differential Diagnostics and Therapy of the Prostatic Disease in Dogs

Abstract

Oni ovise o tipu bolesti i njenom napretku. The prostate is the only accessory sex gland in dogs and its function is to form the first and third fraction of the ejaculate as well as transporting sperm. Prostatic disease commonly occurs in older dogs. Those are benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostatic and paraprostatic cysts, prostatitis, prostatic abscess, and neoplasia. Clinical signs that manifest during the occurrence of a disease can be related with micturition disorders (stranguria, polakiuria, blood in the urine or ejaculate, recurrent infections of urinary tract), digestive disorders (tenesmus), changes in general state, locomotor and neurological disorders. They depend on the type of the disease and its progress. Prognosis and success of the therapy depend on the prompt diagnosis based on clinical findings, rectal examinations, radiological and ultrasound tests, examinations of urine and ejaculate together with biopsy if needed
