Classification of Winter Wheat Grains by Determining the Geometric Properties of the Grains Using Computer Image Analysis

Abstract

Kvaliteta zrna pšenice je složen pojam i uključuje fizičke karakteristike, svježinu zrna, kao i kemijski sastav zrna i druge karakteristike. Zadatak rada bio je primjenom računalne analize slike ispitati različite geometrijske značajke zrna različitih sorti ozime pšenice (površina, opseg, zaokruženost, dužina i širina, prosječna vrijednost sive boje) te utvrditi njihovu povezanost s različitim fizikalnim svojstvima zrna (postotak izbrašnjavanja, apsolutna masa, hektolitarska masa, staklavost zrna). Na temelju provedenih ispitivanja 54 uzorka zrna ozime pšenice i provedene korelacijske i regresijske analize može se zaključiti da se primjenom računalne analize slike u određivanju geometrijskih značajki pšeničnog zrna vrlo dobro mogu predvidjeti neka fizikalna svojstva zrna.The wheat quality includes wheat physical characteristics, freshness of grains, as well as the chemical composition of grains and other characteristics. The aim of this paper was to examine the different grain geometrical characteristics of different winter wheat varieties (grain surface area, grain perimeter, grain circularity, grain length and width and average grey colour) and to determine their correlation with different physical properties of grain (flour milling yield, 1000 kernel weight, hectolitre mass, grain vitreousness). The study was conducted on 54 samples of winter wheat variety samples. Based on the obtained results and performed correlation and regression analysis it can be concluded that physical properties of grain can be successfully predicted by using the computer image analysis in determining the geometric characteristics of wheat
