Influence of proplis in growth Pythium irregulare and Fusarium solani

Abstract

We studied the influence of propolis on two pathogenic fungus, Fusarium solani and Pythium irregulare. Both pathogens make damage to crops worldwide and in Croatia. So far, they are suppressed by using fungicides, which is probably more cost-effective way to control, but it is worse for the environment and human. The alternative for the control of these pathogens is an environmentally friendly way to combat, which includes propolis. Propolis is a bee product, which primarily serves them for disinfection and protection of the hive, which seek to eliminate all harmful organisms that come into contact with the hive. We used three concentrations of propolis in alcoholic solution 0.5 %, 1 % and 2.5 %. The suppression of Pythium irregulare, all three concentrations have proved successful in inhibiting the growth of mycelium, which in this case is not at all increased. The suppression of Fusarium solani, as the best solution proved to be expected, the highest concentration of propolis, or those of 2.5 %, which was completely inhibited the growth of Fusarium solani, while the lower concentration recorded minor increase, but significantly higher than the control
