Phenotypic characteristics of dairy goats

Abstract

Lydtinovim štapom i mjernom vrpcom utvrđeni su slijedeće fenotipske odlike: visina grebena, visina leđa, visina križa, dužina tijela, širina grebena, opseg grudi, opseg cjevanice, dužinu glave i širinu glave. In the milk production in Herzegovina are mostly used Saanen and French Alpine goats. The aim of this manuscript was to determine and compare phenotypic characteristics of these dairy goats in an average age 2, 3 and 4 years. The research was conducted at the farm Kočerin 1 with 45 goats Saanen breed and farm Garišta with 45 goats French Alpine breed. Lydtin stick and measuring tape determined were following phenotypic characteristics: withers height, back height of the cross, small of the back height, body length, chest width, chest circumference, shin-bone circumference, head length and width of the head. By determining and comparing the phenotypic characteristics, we can conclude that both breeds of goats with increasing age was satisfactorily developing, and that goats Saanen breed are phenotypically more developed in most indicators, while the French Alpine goats have a longer and wider head
