Food webs in freshwater ecosystems -interactions between algae, invertebrates and fish

Abstract

Freshwater ecosystems are characterized by numerous interactions between organisms which enable the organic matter cycle and energy flow throughout the ecosystem. Organisms have developed numerous adaptations that allow them to find and take food, and also survive in different habitats. Their interactions form food chains which create food webs. By studying food webs we can gain insight in the complex interrelationships and the influence of organisms on the freshwater ecosystems
