Determination of the start and the end of binding time of portland cement pastes with the addition of the different fractions of waste container glass by electrochemical method : bachelor thesis

Abstract

The paper analyzes the effect of the addition of various fraction of waste container glass at the binding time of cement composites using an electrochemical method with a Pb-Cu electrode pair. Tests were carried out on portland cement paste with addition of 20 wt. % of waste glass with different fractions (<45 μm, 125-250 μm and 250-500 μm) at normal consistency and at W/C = 0.5 and W/S = 0.5 respectively. By introducing waste container glass into the cement-water system, the reaction system is expanding and becoming more complex. New interactions are occurring in the system, and as a result new equilibrium and equilibrium systems are established. At W/C = 0.5 and W/S = 0.5, the waste glass significantly slows down hydration while for samples with normal consistency this effect is smaller. Greater particles of waste glass have more effect on hydration processes
