Formations and decays of HS and HS2 radicals in the gas phase pulse radiolysis of pure H2S, H2S/Ar and H2S/H2 systems have been followed directly by kinetic spectroscopy. The literature on the subject is reviewed and a complete reaction scheme is discussed. Computer-simulations have been used to check the validity of the proposed mechanisms. Rate constants kHS+HS = (2.0 ± 4.0) x 1010 M-1s-1 and KH+H2S = (6.0 ± 1.2) x 108 M-1s-1 have been determined. The reaction of HS radicals with S atoms is responsible for the HS2 formation. Pseudo-first order rate constants for reactions of HS with 1.3 butadiene, ethylene and molecular oxygen are reported
