The article focuses on the forms and different roles of the Ancient Greek Chorus in
contemporary Polish theatre. The author of the text refers to the choral identity in three
Polish performances that were produced in the twenty-first Century: Oresteia directed by
Jan Klata, Bacchae directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski and Iphigeneia at A… the production
by Ośrodek Praktyk Teatralnych „Gardzienice”/The „Gardzienice” Centre of Theatrical
Practices. The article explores the manifold ways of perception and interpretation of the
„collective persona” in contemporary Polish performances as well as discusses the relationship
between these performances and Ancient Greek drama. The author also analyses
the devices that are used by theatre directors to create this collective subject on the stag
