The author of the article observes the functioning of the lexemes Sarmacja Sarmata and their
derivatives in Wojna chocimska (17th century), a poem by Wacław Potocki. She points to the multiplicity
of phraseological connections with the contribution of these lexemes and asks the questions
on the motivation of their incorporation into the work.
The final statements emphasise the importance of ideological messages and picturesque qualities
of Potocki’s “Sarmatian phraseology”. According to the author, it constitutes an appeal for the
heart and mind of contemporary Poles at the time of Potocki, and introduces patriotic emotions and
moral evaluations into the sphere of citizen duties
