Abstract
The paper examines the concept of time in the context of Quentin Meillassoux's speculative materialism. The absolute time is presented as a link between two sides of Meillassoux's philosophy – speculation, as a way of escape outside of the correlacionist circle through affirmation of a-subjective materialism, and a draft of Meillassoux's ethics in his doctoral thesis The Divine Inexistence. Meillassoux's philosophy is approached as a thought system and the emphasis is placed on the relation between time and the literary subject as the concept of virtual is seen as a ground for interpretation of Sebald's Austerlitz, which structures its narrator as a starting point for the essential grief
