Abstract

The development of the American economy from the colonial period to the modern era is
followed by turbulent events that have had a significant impact on the evolution from the initial,
undeveloped to a highly developed economy. Government policy, industrial development,
population growth, technological progress as well as numerous wars have significantly changed
the course of economic growth and development. The biggest catastrophe that led to major
losses was the Civil War and the Great Depression, but its monetary and economic policy
quickly recovered the economy. The post-World War II period was marked by a strong growth
until 1970 followed by crises and oil shocks. With the end of the Cold War, the United States
remains the world’s superpower
