Damage to domestic animals from wolf in the Sisak-Moslavina county area

Abstract

One of the biggest reasons of endangerment of grey wolf' is the rejection by the local community, mainly because of the damage to domestic animals. The increase in damage in Sisak-Moslavina county is causing the resistance of the cattlemen of returning the wolf to this region which can lead to illegal killing of wolves. Processing data about attacks on livestock recognized the critical areas of the attacks and established the circumstances of the attack. It was processed a total of 65 reported attacks in the period from year 2008. - 2015. The way of keeping livestock and failure to take measures of protection referred to the reduction efforts in the herders to help increase damages made by wolf, while the disparity between decrease numbers of a population of wolves and the rise of the damage in Banovina area warn of law research of the population. Attacks along the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina shows great activity of border packs about movement outside of Croatia knowing almost nothing because of the lack of cross-border cooperation, and imposes a need to strengthen monitoring on the Croatian side of the border
