Language and national identity in linguistic dictionaries (on material of bilingual dictionary of the tatar language of the 19<sup>th</sup> century and the turn of the 20<sup>th</sup> century)

Abstract

The article considers bilingual dictionaries of the Tatar language of the 19th century and the turn of the 20th century as reflection of historical, social and political events. Peculiarities of peoples' life, various processes taking place in the country, have certainly been reflected in language, therefore, imposing the function of the national-cultural code of people on the language. A lexicographical work is not only the storage of language material but correlation of culture and language, history and national self-consciousness, politics and retention of identity and integrity of peoples. Studying bilingual dictionaries, the authors have been aimed to reveal integrity of the Tatar language in the Russian-Tatar languages, in the role of inclusion and exclusion of a foreign lexeme, for the purpose of preservation of the marker of national identity. The study is an analysis of impact of outer events on forming inner national culture, national language. It was revealed that the period analyzed by them was the result of impact both objective and subjective factors when compiling bilingual dictionaries. At the same time compiling bilingual dictionaries of the 19th century and the turn of the 20th century indicates the formation and growth of national self consciousness of the Tatars and at the same time increase the role of the Tatar language and culture in the socio-political and economic life of Russia. Undoubtedly, integrated study of data on the basis of the Tatar lexicographical material of above mentioned period allows to create panoramic view of the past and present of the Tatar nation
