Morphological peculiarities of the peripheral Vilniškiai dialect

Abstract

In the nominative case plural the adjectives of a stem may have the inflexion -ūs (e. g. senūs "seni" (old). Sometimes the full formants -tei/-tie of the infinitive of the verbs are pronounced. In the imperative mood of the second person singular the inflexion -ai is used, and in plural – the inflexion -it (Daugavpils). In the border dialects of the Vilniškiai the locative is confused with illative. They are sometimes used instead of singular accusative case, the preposition per with the accusative case and the plural instrumental case. The neuter gender of the adjectives, impersonal verbs, and the nominative case of the participle plural because of the contacts between the languages were changed by the nominative case singular of the adjectives or participles of the masculine gender and the adver
