Abstract

This is a case study of students\u27growth processes in a senior high school with a credit system and no grade system. The credit-system high school has been founded to take in high school dropouts and truants. In this study, the interviews were used to assess how students\u27daily school experiences influence the processes and the mechanisms of students\u27growth. The findings revealed that the flexible system encourages a huge variety of students to grow up in various manners. Not only those who exercise their autonomy but also those who lack self-direction can make good use of the system and grow up in the high school. As a result, many dropouts and truants are able to return to school
