Ao analisar a série de quadros sobre a Incofidência Mineira, pretende-se investigar a relação entre pintura e história, observando a utilização dessas obras como instrumento de reafirmação de poder e de um imaginário coletivo através de um processo de reinvenção da nação e construção de heróis. As telas escolhidas correspondem a uma releitura da Inconfidência Mineira na percepção do artista, de acordo com as aspirações republicanas.Antônio Parreiras was a national painter in 19th century and begining of 20th century, who most produced historical paintings in Brazil. His works are very significant for the painting of history in the country, and the construction of the visual certificate of Brazil. In analyzing the series of paintings about the Inconfidência Mineira, it is intended to investigate the relationship between painting and history, noticing the use of these paintings as an instrument of reaffirmation of power, and of a collective imaginary through a process of reinvention of the nation and the construction of heroes. The canvas chosen correspond to a rereading of the Inconfidência Mineira in the artist's perception, according to republican aspirations
